Venue: Corfu Town
A tradition that dates back as far as 1630, the procession of the Holy Shrine of St Spyridon, takes place on Palm Sunday. This is in memory of the victims of the deadly plague from 1629.
All Philharmonic Orchestras of the island, of which are 18, take part in this litany, which is the largest in size. Once the prossesion is over the orchestras parade Corfu Town playing Marches.Pieces that are played such as ''triomfale'' and ''militare''.
In local churches all over Corfu parishioners visit the church and claim there ''BAION'' of which would be placed in the families car, or home icon for holy blessing.
The Palm Sunday parades are one of the best days to be apart of the extraordinary traditions that are combined, celebrated and executed with full Corfiot pride.
